Some random retro LOLs

This next one depends on remembering when Lars von Trier and friends declared the Dogme 95 principles for filmmaking. (And probably does not require remembering the Kevin Smith film Dogma.)

With this December 2011 Brevity, we’re getting a bit into OYs.

And we interrupt our parade of Oldies to drop in a Duffy Lug Nuts on the same theme from current GoComics publication:

Two comics from Ian with the common element of unpaid internships, which he notes “seem to be everywhere at the moment!”

And finally, an Ewww-LOL from BillR. It’s the “number 2” that clinches it!

Almost a pun failure, as it is arguable the joke of her equivocation is already well-cemented in panel 3 and then the clues in panel 4 are just a waste. But probably it is also arguable that many a reader would miss the gag in panel 3 and there is a definite need for panel 4 …

And this dampens my hope of someday understanding what “fugue state” is or is not related to.

Yes, it’s the same David Mamet better known as a playwright.

Getting triple duty from one little affix!

Since this is announced as dealing with puns, how could we pass it up?

Interesting – the cartoonist doesn’t actually show us the missing word, which must combine raccoon and centaur.

Do the mash

I felt sure CIDU had somewhere printed this Bizarro:

But apparently not. It must have felt familiar because I had seen it the previous week in several places already (email, CK, Wayno’s blog, Piraro’s blog, …). But apparently not right here on these pages.

Why was I looking for it? So that I might drop into a comment on whatever post or thread the Bizarro appeared in, this 1991 Far Side, featuring the same deadly weapon, appearing just recently on the current Far Side archive site.

Nerd alert

Lucky for me, I figured out that I don’t have to lick my cats, I can just lick my thumbs then wipe across their faces.

But then again, some do tongue-bathe:

Here’s a bit more Bliss, with likely the same characters in a different setting.

Thanks to Becky for this XKCD.

The rollover text (for those who insist it’s an integral part of each XKCD cartoon) was “3D graphs that don’t contact the plane in the closure area may proceed as scheduled, but be alert for possible collisions with 2D graph lines that reach the hole and unexpectedly enter the 3D space.”

Is the therapist playing off an ambiguity to humorously chide the client for being late … again?

Saturday Morning OYs – January 28th, 2023

P.S. This Bizarro was discussed in some detail on the Arnold Zwicky blog.

I don’t know, wouldn’t it have been simpler and just as effective to go with the standard “minstrel” spelling?

Thanks to Boise Ed! Are salads and tights the current faves on the insta?

Not the most sophisticated of jokes, but near irresistible when accompanied by the drawing.

Definitely a geezer if this was your textbook!

Meta text is “Researchers claim to have identified 6 additional elements in the second row, tentatively named pentium through unnilium.”

We most often see PBS in the OYs, but this seems a straight-ahead LOL:
