Boise Ed sends this in: “LOL doesn’t quite do it, but I don’t see a “Simply wow!” category. This one nearly makes me want to pay for a print.”

A video to Weill away the time.

We haven’t actually seen a star fall in since we invented telescopes, but I have a list of ones I’m really hoping are next.
The opposite of gravity is levity, so of course it’s okay to laugh at black holes.
Is it possible cartoonist Randal Monroe has been watching Philomena Cunk’s mockumentaries?

Keep doing variations on a theme, and sooner or later you’ll hit on one the fans don’t remember!

Have you seen the meme about the Welsh translation service?

Is the shell the choice spot for petting a tortoise?

Quite the wily allusion.

But only on condition they walk in together.
Geezer Alert!

This is the LOL-Weird entry for the week. Bizarro in more than name alone!
Thanks to Grawlix and Chemgal for suggesting this artist:

Here’s the LOL-Aww promised in the tags.

It’s Halloween! It’s one of the set of similar days with very different tones: There’s the Day of the Dead, with reverence for the departed. There’s Halloween, where in theory the evil spirits have power, but has evolved into a chance to meet the neighbor kids, if only briefly. There’s All Saints Day on November 1, a day of celebration. Following that, on November 2, is All Souls Day, which I remember in particular for that scary sequence in the old Latin liturgy:
O wrath, O day of mourning,
O hear the fateful prophet’s warning,
Heaven and earth in ashes burning. …
When the Judge his seat attaineth,
And each hidden deed arraigneth,
Nothing unavenged remaineth.
What shall I, frail man, be pleading?
Who for me be interceding,
When the just are mercy needing? …
The general tone is aptly captured in Verdi’s or Mozart’s Dies Irae, from their Requiem Masses.
Of course, you might also mistranslate “Dies Irae” as “Day of the Iras”, and listen to Ira Glass’s This American Life, or some of those great songs from George and Ira Gershwin. Or not.

Hit me again, dealer!

Oy-Ewww

Just in case anyone here had some doubt, “Himalayan” is indeed a recognized breed of cat. My mother had a cat named Hillary, and some people thought that name was in honor of a prominent American politician; but in fact he was a Himalayan cat, and named for Sir Edmund Hillary. Here is a picture of the breed:

Not really an OY, but then tax filings aren’t due until Tuesday, April 18.

I was thinking of this as a CIDU until I saw a comment at GoComics suggesting they are collecting signatures on a petition — for a candidate or for a ballot measure, we can’t say. The car does put them outdoors. Certainly there are still questions, but can we ask all to refrain from objecting to the co-occurrence of the “(Not a CIDU)” category for the LOL listing post and a stray “CIDU” categorization for the lingering doubts of this cartoon?

So it’s still snail week at BOB MANKOFF PRESENTS: SHOW ME THE FUNNY (ANIMAL EDITION).

A Sad-LOL fer shure:

The first time I was sent today’s Monty, I decided I’d ask for feedback on whether to count it toward the DeathMatch tally.
After the fourth time, I figured I already had my consensus.
So it’s Death 15, #TeamPinocchio 5.
The Bizarro, sent to me by Nicholas, is ineligible because it’s almost two years old but, as he points out, it hasn’t been here before.
