Saturday Morning Oys – January 29th, 2022

I only recently started sometimes reading One Big Happy, and evidently don’t yet have a good handle on the age and attitude of the intended audience. But these are all clear OYs on familiar sayings.

Is this Horace himself, doing some kind of costumed performance? Or an ancestor or other predecessor, who looked like that in his heyday?

This is here as a LOL but almost went into the Oopsies. The “related products” message from Amazon doesn’t ever appear full-screen as drawn here. It was enough to throw Pam off, who sent it in as not-fully-understood.

Here is a picture of the real Erwin S, and I think the cartoon has a pretty good likeness. We should also note a thank-you to contemporary physicist, Twitter celebrity, and YouTube presence Sean M Carroll, who when explaining the famous thought-experiment says there is a vial of fast-acting sleeping-gas, and when we look for the cat’s condition the choices are Asleep and Awake.

Does anyone want to treat it as CIDU? If you think it might be more than the officiant turning the traditional “… or forever hold your peace” into a very modern and casual alternative expression. BTW, didn’t we previously have a discussion on whether that “speak now or …” clause is still announced these days?

But come to think of it, why would Connie be surprised at any of the elements of Jeremy’s forefront concerns as depicted? These are the interests he manifests in waking life as well.

It turns out they had a whole dinosaur-themed series; so this one may lose some of the charm of the Stegosaurus showing up in the conversation out of nowhere.

I was just tickled by the key idea here, of ironic and non-ironic being explicit seating options.

This may be a word-play comic, but it was seen too late to get in the Saturday New YOy collection.

Okay, okay, I know there is sentiment out there regarding Lug Nuts, like Frog Applause, as so generally just about some sort of surreal or absurdist or grotesque drawing that it doesn’t get close enough to a directly funny joke to justify calling it a CIDU.
But no!, if one of these defiant non-understandable series comes close enough to making comic sense, but still eludes, we can honor the near-miss with our attempts to exercise some acumen.

That said, — Is that a cane? A tail? Does it go out accompanied by the guy while it is not well enough to go out on its own. (Oh sorry, he / him / his?)
