I think we have in the past counted literalizing figures of speech as a kind of generalized language-play, that can fall under the OY umbrella. But this is a bit long would weigh down the Saturday Morning OYs list, so here it is as a bonus, just to enjoy for itself.

P.S. This Bizarro was discussed in some detail on the Arnold Zwicky blog.

I don’t know, wouldn’t it have been simpler and just as effective to go with the standard “minstrel” spelling?

This joke is wheely tiresome.

Here’s our Oy-Ewwwww!

(Thanks to Guero for noticing the mistaken mistimed posting of this last week.)

My guesses are that the Sporkula and Foon are made up, and that the Foodle was intended that way but in fact exists, under some other name. I think I’ve seen it used for lifting and serving spaghetti.

So clever! (But we may have to watch out for the pronunciation-guide people.)

OK, let’s hear the pros and cons for whether it’s better with put the garbage out or would be improved with put out the garbage.

A sausage party?

A clever LOL-OY-CIDU from Keith Knight.

The CIDU aspect is not anything deeply puzzling, but let’s just ask how long it took you to see how the bananas got into the discourse.

Andréa sends in these. Good to see the Ministry of Silly Walks getting into the holiday spirit.

A perpetual favorite mixup:

… and what did we just say?

More Bizarro.

Here’s one for the “not a classic pun, but generalized language play” … also it’s time to acknowledge the “dad jokes” category in pop culture.

Thanks to Andréa for this Half Full:
