Sunday Funnies – LOLs, May 05th, 2024

Scammers certainly are getting more creative. I got a “reimbursement” from my Jane Doe, the condo property manager, with the email Jane.Doe@propfirm.com, which was suspiciously close to her actual email of Jane.Doe@propfirm.net, and this is a person I occasionally get reimbursements from (luckily as old-school physical checks)

From Dan Piraro’s subscription newsletter, “The Naked Cartoonist“. I’ll conclude with an early collaboration with Wayno; a Bizarro cartoon about red flags in relationships. If only they were this obvious in real life!

A nice Thurber shout-out here. And do you agree the Bliss dogs bear a resemblance to Thurber dogs?

And for fun let’s compare the color version:

I’d say the color is nicer as a mild-humor comic, but the Thurber book identity is obscured.

But no, I can’t figure out what the pairings and lines are doing. It’s certainly not the standard March Madness sort of bracketting. Maybe if I had reread the book at some point in the last 50 years I would do better. … OK, here’s a help page. Wait, how can it fail to mention Dorothea’s nickname, “Dodo”?

Oh, oh, oh! I think I know!

Sunday Funnies – LOLs, February 4th, 2024

TBH, this Rae the Doe isn’t really a LOL; but it needed to go in a list-post as not fully justifying a standalone daily post or even a bonus. What’s special about it is that you don’t often see a genuinely informative infographic as panel or strip of a regular comic (that is, excluding those that purport to bring you facts every day). Also, the artist’s note is endearingly unassertive, as usual (yes, she does put in notes somewhat often).

No, I kan’t make any sense of this Calvin and Hobbes:

This sub-feature of the SFPC repertoire rarely does much for me. But this instance worked well — maybe because it isn’t really “for the epically/brutally challenged” as much as “for the nightly news evaluation challenged”.

This was a momentary CIDU — I was puzzling out which side of the deal was losing, and why — until the GoComics comments cleared it all up. If you still need a clue, look at those pages in his right hand.

Yes, we don’t publish synchronicities any more. But two comics on the obscure theme of squirrel pushing showing up not just on the same day, but right next to each other in my GoComics feed, was too much to resist.

Zippy feeling just a bit meta.

And a semi-CIDU for this same couple:

The question being: Is the guy just pushing his point by selecting a random term meant to be absurd, or else do they maybe have something (like a remote, or an ashtray, …) which is actually crafted to look like a Stegosaurus?

Why not start off Sunday with a bit of math? Roughly how old is she?

This is Frazz’s Sunday intro panel for January 7th. Mallett posts these on Facebook. Otherwise, I’d never see them because GoComics doesn’t use the intro panels, for reasons I don’t understand.

Saturday Morning OYs – December 2nd, 2023

Cute enough!

Thanks to Boise Ed for this OY-CIDU from Lola:

The partial CIDU designation is occasioned by the surprisingly large number of GoComics commenters who aver they just don’t get it — even after putting together “Skip Recap”. Evidently not in the habit of watching serialized TV over a streaming service.

The squirrel’s comment was briefly puzzling. The drawing doesn’t look much like a bottle, nor a glass, so the “alcoholic beverages” reading of “spirits” was blocked. But that’s what it has to be, isn’t it?
