This “dogged effort to learn a foreign language” has paid off!
And as my brother recently messaged me: Yo no soy marinara! Yo no soy marinara! Soy carbonara, soy carbonara, soy carbonara — por ti seré, por ti seré, por ti seré.
A group that my project was coordinating with had moved offices, and the first time I visited there on business the admin assistant was showing me around, and pointed out the pretty nice view thru the ground-level glass doors onto the large grassy area between their building and the complex of the Court Theatre and Smart Museum. “This is our great view!” she said. When I agreed that it was, well, quite okay, she told me to walk by the nearest area of lawn on my way out. I did, and then saw the large air grate embedded in the lawn right outside that office, and in fact blowing exhaust at the moment. So I had to admit, they had a grate view! [==mitch]
This might be a Semi-CIDU, as there is the question of whether this is how the cowboy bathes (and gets the horse to manage the timing and coins), or it’s at the horse’s volition as it wants its gear and rider to be clean.
The “when I look” and “someone will sneak” look like ordinary indicatives, with something like habitual aspect. But surely this doesn’t happen a lot! If we take into account the strip title, that makes this binocular-knocking one of those fears — we just have to understand a “One of my fears is that when ..” at the start and it all comes together.
I can’t make out what the guy sees, or thinks he sees, in the sky. And thus, whether the racing challenge is directed to that celestial figure or to the child. Is it about reaching shelter before storm conditions catch up with them? Or less on-the-nose?
Maybe patience and the color version will help…
OK, we’ve heard of the Purple Mountains’ majesty…. But I guess the adult is addressing the child, and the joke is in either the non-specificity of the race goal, or in the implausible distance for them to cover?
A pretty nice Meta comic! I’ll look forward to seeing the color version, and checking what elements are red. Meanwhile, here is a red tee fitting for reference :
Well, here it is! Nope, nothing exciting to be learned …
(No language issues here, so we are not including the Spanish version.)
Here’s one kind of meta idea taken to a logical conclusion.
This one I wanted to make a daily standalone CIDU, but couldn’t really justify that.
OK, it’s a general picture of some sort of “bad boyfriend behavior”, but what exactly is he saying, to get rid of who or what? (Secondarily, since the absent partner here is a stand-in for the cartoonist, she might well be taking a share of blame for so often provoking exasperation.)
But then again, here they are together for some creative brainstorming!
Oh and BTW, for others who follow this strip, does this mean he is part of the spinoff “Side Gig” business that she and her pal from work are planning to quit their jobs to go launch? Or I guess he’s just being supportive about it…
