I think this is rather brilliant. But can’t quite put my finger (or words) on just why.

Thanks to Dale for sending this in, and saying “Is that fish supposed to be smoking? That doesn’t seem funny. Is it that it’s out of the bowl & sitting human fashion? Would that be funny? Are the other fish frowning or is that just resting fish face?”

Also I wondered, as did Dale, as did some commenters at goComics, whether this could have something to do with smoked fish.
That’s where the title about passive progressive comes in. It used to be that you weren’t supposed to say something like “Their house is being built currently”. And instead the recommended form was “Their house is a-building currently” or (slightly less eccentric sounding today) “Their house is building currently”. And by those rules, in place of “The fish is being smoked” you would have “The fish is smoking“. And voilà, here we have a picture of “The fish is smoking”.
Okay, in the spirit of supplementing the daily CIDU with entertaining musical clips, here is Cream doing “Strange Brew”:

… and always thought it was “da doo run run run” . This comes from Philip, who says “Why this song? And why men’s apparel? Is there something obvious I’m not seeing?”

If you have a fave performance of this song, please feel free to share! Here’s a good one, h/t to a commenter rugeirn on the GoComics site:

Clippy was discontinued long enough ago that this may require the geezers category!

From BillR, who says “No, sir, I don’t get it.”

From DanV, who remarks that this Strange Brew is a complete mystery to him.

Let’s just call this format something like “text-added photo” and not get into what can or cannot properly be called “meme”.
There may or may not be a discoverable individual “author”, but I wll lazily enough use the name of the person posting to Facebook Group “The Daily Pun”.

Jan’s dating adventure continues. This seems to use a pun on an unspoken characterization.

And it is rather cute to think about how the cymbals can be incorporated into a password. Probably no more annoying than when the form has no way of communicating the legal symbols it will accept to your secure-random-password generator.
