Saturday Morning Oys – November 14th, 2020

A Tomversation sent in by RobS:

This Strange Brew sent in by several contributors–RobS, Andréa, kedamono –in different categories, but we’re going with Oy:

Again RobS and Andréa spotted the same panel comic. Has “crisis actor” become a normalized term in contemporary discourse?

Yay! For once Teresa gives us a funny straightforward pun , without a totally mysterious drawing or collage:

(Wait, was that a touch of Ewww?)

A That-is-Priceless double-take pun from Anon:

Saturday Morning Oys – November 7th, 2020

You can always count on Gargle Seawater for some Oy content!

Here is Baldo (1) using an embattled English expression in its traditional form, not the disputed more-modern form, and (2) making a pun out of it.

For comparison, for those who can make use of it, also providing the Spanish version.  The pun doesn’t seem to have been attempted here.

Full-on pun for *Dingbats*.

The sender says: “It’s been over 40 years since Edith Bunker died.
Has anyone used the word ‘dingbat’ as an insult since then?” Probably not, and it may take a geezer to recall it. The *word* of course remains familiar to font-heads.

Dark side of The Horse so often breaks new frontiers in cartoon-physics! And we usually call that LOL, but here there is wordplay on “airplane mode” that should qualify for an OY.

From Andréa.

Oy!

Take a wild guess at why she’s in the dark and taking a shot.

Sunday Funnies – LOLs, November 1st, 2020

Okay, a LOL but a sad-LOL.

I generally grudge-read PBF, along with a couple other hyper-cynical comics.  But this one struck me as funny and appealing.

And really nice is the collection of rock stuff in the middle panel.  That’s a Yellow Submarine picture on the wall, the album on the bed with the yellow smear is probably the banana-cover Velvet Underground first album, the open mouth next to it seems Rolling Stones related.  And is the blimp picture a reference to Led Zeppelin?

Hah! Gotcha, Mothra! From Andréa. (Who suggests there is word play going on between ‘Mothra’ and treating it as a ‘moth’. But isn’t that just what the name is about?)

Absurdism, put in its place.

Contributed by Andréa, who says “Particularly funny for me, as mysteries are my favorite genre.”

Extra, extra! Read all about the Bolt from Lowe’s!

A remarkable Synchronicity, with both bearing today as publication date, found by Andréa, who asks if it could be that Scott Hilburn and Mark Parisi are the same person. Also noted by zbicyclist, Targuman, Boise Ed, and maybe others!

The overlap of details is unusual, but then again notice things like whether the nationalities are given as proper-adjectives or nouns.
