Saturday Morning OYs – July 27th, 2024

This first one is more of an Ewww than an OY:

P.S. The weather this summer has been exceptional for snails and slugs; every few days I can go into the back yard and collect a dozen (or even a score) of the gross things.

This is only the third time that the Keane’s “Family Circus” has appeared at CIDU (not counting a few mashups and tangential references).

A Comic I didn’t understand the first three times I saw it. I wasn’t puzzled, just mistaken.

I thought the point was just in the dog choosing to ignore the request (command) and pursue different interests.

This atrocious B.C. pun appeared just in time for the opening ceremonies:

Tolkien wrote that the Elves made three rings, the Dwarves were given seven rings, and Sauron made nine rings to entrap the Nazgul, but where do the five rings fit into the story?

Saturday Morning OYs – June 08th, 2024

Phew, a lot of work to get there!

Indeed, they are said to have a high turnover.

But Day by Dave wasn’t done with punning for the week yet.

Mary Ellen sent this one in. Why backpacking alpacas? Why does everyone look so miserable? And why are the men in what looks like monks’ robes while the alpacas are using folding maps and modern looking backpacks?

It’s somewhere between an OY (wordplay on alpacah and backpackah) and a CIDU.

Cornish Game Clams

A lengthy CIDU in six laborious parts.

Last Friday’s discussion about “Cornish Lobster” prompted a comment from beckoningchasm about Kliban’s “Cornish Game Clams“. I never read the book “Two Guys Fooling Around with the Moon” and had never heard of this sequence, but I soon discovered that it was hiding in plain sight at GoComics (starting on 11-Feb-2013).

Whether or not this was worth the effort is a question that CIDU readers will have to decide: I don’t understand what is going on in these comics at all (and it may just be random surrealism). Discussion is welcome (YMMV).

As so often with “Viivi and Wagner”, the thesis seems to be that men are pigs…

Sunday Funnies – LOLs, July 17th, 2022

A little bit mean … but still quite funny.

A brain-painful LOL from Chemgal:

Inspiration!

This almost went into the Oys list, since there is a play on a sort of ambiguity of where. This was a favorite joke-form of a friend of mine who knew Ulysses inside-out after teaching it to undergrads at Millard Fillmore College in Buffalo, and dubbed these “on the canal bank” jokes. It was from this bit, in the final chapter:
I hate that confession when I used to go to Father Corrigan he touched me father and what harm if he did where and I said on the canal bank like a fool but whereabouts on your person my child on the leg behind high up was it yes rather high up was it where you sit down yes O Lord couldnt he say bottom right out and have done with it what has that got to do with it and did you whatever way he put it I forget no father
