2×2?

Straightforward, if not funny:

But what about those papers that might print 4-panel Nancy as a 2×2?

or some other orientation?

In earlier days, Bushmiller would sometimes do a 3 panel, but in the examples I looked at the third panel was double-width, so it would still fit within a 2×2 orientation. But perhaps the number of papers who might be affected is approaching 0.

Beckoning, I don’t really care for Cash but this is what she do. Her readers expect this sort of thing. This strip is not dissimilar to several of her first Nancy strips. There’s definitely an audience for it, I think overlapping with fans of comics like Maakies, Zippy the Pinhead, Too Much Coffee Man, and like that.

The 2×2 looks confusing enough, but I once knew a paper that would print some strips 1 x 4 — a vertical stack of panels. But even with the four-wide format, I don’t see the purpose of this. It’s not funny, it’s not dramatic, it’s not particularly imaginative.
