Celebrating Tuesday with two CIDUs today!

Jim A. sends in this one. “I just don’t get it.”

Dirk the Daring sends in this one: “I just don’t get it.  Is he happy about the Eden thing and she’s not?  This is actually what he expected? If so, it’s phrased oddly.  It should be something like “Well, what did you expect from ‘Authentic apple-picking experience’”.

Or if it’s not what he expected, then “Well, this isn’t what I thought…”

Philosophy Phriday, on a Monday

JMcAndrew sends this one in: “This one has me completely baffled. I guess this clown is filling up a plate with food before he intentionally slips on the banana peel and falls into the open grave? But Why?”

This is part of a set of cartoons by Edward Steed, with the title of Philosophy Illustrated: A Picture Book of Philosophical Terms. So, it’s intended as a humorous take on the philosophical concept of free will.

I must admit that I (ZBicyclist) find more than this one confusing.

On a lighter philosophical note: (these are not CIDUs)

Sunday Funnies, LOLs – February 16, 2025

Boise Ed sends in this one:

Dan Sachs sends this in as a partial CIDU, wondering “Is that an asterisk? Where is the footnote?”

So, another upgrade on the GoComics website. It’s a bit mean to post this as an LOL, but it seems like every time GoComics “upgrades” there are problems. I remember after one “upgrade” Comic Sherpa (a showcase for new comic authors) was promised to return “soon”, but never did and was eventually abandoned. In recent weeks, some Barney and Clyde comics have been missing dialogue, even though they show up fine on Arcamax. But we can hope this “upgrade” will be less glitchy.

That email to subscribers mentions that the cost will be going up to $35/yr, although they are holding the price for 1 year for existing subscribers at $20.

UPDATE: As if on cue, GoComics does it again today (Feb 16):

At the same time, Arcamax has the entire comic:

Bonus: Valentine’s Arlo Award

I find it hard to believe that any newspaper editor would have let Get Fuzzy strip this appear in print, even if the relevant expression is a little bit dated:

The last dialog bubble in the fourth panel is closer to overkill than actually necessary, but it certainly makes it clear that the joke in the third panel was intentional.

This Yuval Robichek comic was submitted as a “choice half-Arlo”, but in Bill’s day it would never have appeared on the primary CIDU site: he would have banned it to his separate “Arlo” page. (But since it is a web comic, it wouldn’t qualify for an Arlo “award”.)

Happy Valentine’s Day

Danny Boy sends this in.

JMcAndrew sends these two in. “Not only does this comic end with a rabbit about to hook up with a shoe but it also manages to slip in a joke about the title character from the movie “Babe”in a relationship with “Oscar Mayer””

“There’s also this one suggesting a relationship between Madonna and Sandra Bernhard and OJ Simpson with Lorena Bobbitt”

Making an Impression

Usual John submitted this Lockhorns comic as a CIDU, asking: “Why would you get a “W” imprint from charging the net? Also, is there some significance to the doctor’s name, ‘H. Blog’ ?

The word “charging” probably was supposed to mean that Leroy hit something that left an impression, but just like Usual John, I cannot think of anything on a basketball court (let alone a net) that would produce such a mark. In addition, even if there were something that would have done so, the image of the “W” (from the Wilson logo) should have been reflected:

P.S. I also wonder whether there was a particular reason that the authors chose “Wilson” (instead of “Adidas”, “Nike”, or “Puma”).

Comments may be fixed

I tinkered with settings. Disabling “Enable blocks in comments” allows me to comment again. I did have to do a hard refresh (<cntrl><F5> in most browsers), so if it still doesn’t work for you, try that.

Hoping to see a comment from someone soon so I’ll know it’s working!

Adding a quote so we can see the styling both in post and in comments.
