Sunday Funnies – LOLs, May 8th, 2022

Perhaps over-familiar as a mental-health joke, but enough original twist to make it funny.

One (and done) from Andréa, and extracted from a Loch Ness synchro:
Sent by Dana K, who says “Same thing Abe Lincoln was getting at when he spoke of “government OF the people and BY the people and FOR the people”.

  1. The person emptying the sand at the top would seem to be awfully slow. They are still emptying a bucket in the time it took the other three to
    1) lower a bucket
    2) untie it and have the person at the bottom start to fill it
    3) have the second person at the bottom tie a filled bucket to the rope and have it start to be lifted

Then again, maybe the emptying person just got back from a break and the bucket was waiting for them.

  2. I’m also wondering about the Hourglass People. Why are they performing this bucket operation? If they just allowed the sand to flow, what would happen? I suppose the ground floor people are afraid of their chamber filling up and smothering them. But I don’t think there’s that much sand. And the people on top, though they may worry on behalf of their neighbors below, are in no danger themselves.

Or, instead of allowing the flow to complete, they could dump bucketsfull from the bottom chamber into the Outer Void instead of bothering to haul up and replenish the supply.

  3. By the way, my Lincoln comment with the Andertoons comes from watching the Ken Burns “Civil War”. In a segment with one of the celebrity guest historians or commentaters, maybe Shelby Steele, asserting directly that this passage should not be read as I have written it, but instead with emphasis on the people. “That governmentofthe PEOPLE, andbythe PEOPLE, andforthe PEOPLE, shall not perish from the earth.”

  4. Hmm, I think in a real-world hourglass the total sand does not fill either chamber. But in this picture it appears there is enough.

Anyhow, even if completion of the timer flow would not kill them, when a giant hand comes along to flip the whole thing over, that would certainly be rather traumatic for all the occupants.

  5. I took the idea of hauling buckets of sand to the top “chamber” is that without doing so the sand will stop running and it is not wanted for that to happen so their purpose is to constantly be refilling the top chamber so there is always sand there to run to the bottom.

  6. Meryl, I also sort of wanted to say it is their job. (Or their fate.) But I thought then that an official hole in the wall would be neater and cleaner, so probably the ones shown were created by the people we see – probably by hitting the wall with a bucket.
