My friends on road trips used to enjoy “What’s that up in the road? A head?”. (Oops, accidental repeat from 25 May.)
Also fun on road trips: Look out, there’s a fork in the road!

TBH, I’m not entirely sure if “branch” in the last panel is actually intended as a pun.

If “branch” isn’t a pun, there’s no joke in the strip.
I first saw “female canine” and worried there would be a b*tch joke attempt.
Perhaps an unintended double pun since presumably they’re at a branch of the library as well. Really liked the side of baked beans pun.
As Paul said, clearly intended to be a branch library.
Perhaps the kid will grow up to work for an outfit like Davey Tree, as a branch manager.
Mark Trail got to the De-bait pun first.
Dogmatic is for when my dog is behaving in a way that makes sense only to him.

There’s a spot where you could follow Yogi’s advice:
“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
As my brothers and sisters used to say, “Stop Ahead! Ask him for some dope.”
A similar sort of joke as, “Be alert. The world needs more lerts.”
There was a Don Martin cartoon on an interstate highway with the in-picture sign “Pay Toll Ahead”. There’s a bit of a kerning misunderstanding by the driver, I guess.

Clicking on “View Image Larger” doesn’t work for me (Firefox on a Mac) but clicking on the thumbnail works.
He had another similar joke where the sign says “Pay Toll Fifty Feet Ahead” and the driver duly pays with 50 sawn-off feet.
@ narmitaj – That one is worth embedding here:
Oh! I thought that was going to turn out to be about “Pay TROLL Ahead”.
Hey! What did I run into just a few moments later!
There’s a Troll Bridge in the original (“Colossal Cave”) Adventure game. You have to defeat the troll. I’ll give you a hint: early on in the game you find some tasty food. Don’t eat it.
