Willie Sutton famously said he robbed banks “because that’s where the money is,” but these days the Willie Suttons are mostly trolling the internet, looking for people to scam.
A few months ago, I read “Kenau Reeves is Not In Love With You”, by Becky Holmes. The book centers around romance scams, but also discusses other financial confidence scams. One chapter deals with the scams from the other side: the scammers are pressured / threatened by their managers to achieve certain results, much like any telemarketers.

I have been reading r/scams off and on. Unfortunately, it’s highly repetitious as people don’t tend to consult it until they get in deep. There’s this meme that it’s all old fogeys getting scammed, but young people are just as prone. It is just different scams. Popular ones:
The sheriff is calling to tell you that you missed jury duty and are going to be arrested.
You have been hired! Yes, your online job starts now after that awesome text interview, and the company will send you an electronic check to cover equipment. Deposit that, and forward money to these vendors.
Oops, I accidentally sent you money on Venmo. Please return it.
I accidentally reported your Discord account and they are going to suspend it. Here is a link to a Discord admin who will help you.
We’d like to offer you an opportunity. You will open accounts at LinkedIn and other services, then our representative who is totally not in North Korea will use them.
