I see a number of CIDUs every now and then, but I always feel a) it’s a pop culture reference I’ll never get but it obvious to the world at large, b) the cartoonist is scraping the bottom of the barrel, desperate to meet a deadline. As a result of both those, plus advanced age, I tend to forget about them. I’ll try to do better in the future.

As an editor I’ve posted several items where I was sure I knew the cartoonist’s intent, and subsequent comments proved me right, but that’s not the point. It’s a community and we have fun riffing on the ideas–THAT’S the point!
Well, not exactly a CIDU but today’s Luann has the title character gobsmacked that she has to apply to get into a four year university after 20+ years at the local Junior College. I don’t understand how this strip survives…

I read it myself because I like the way he draws women. They’re always appealing. (The men always look like potatoes, and not very fresh potatoes.)
Oh, am I ever with you. I mostly lurk on Comics Curmudgeon where the ire towards ‘Trufans’ flows like Vesuvius. I occasionally read the strip to see how bad it can get and today was a lulu.
The guidance counselor looks like a Mud City Mangler from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. I had a couple of corroborating image links when I first posted this comment but I think they were rejected.
I don’t understand why only Luann comes into criticism for using comic-book time. Everyone complains about her being in junior college for “20 years” (it’s been like 12) but has no problem with the Peanuts kids aging up by only a few years during the entire 50-year run, or Dennis Mitchell being perpetually 5-anna-half.
