In the first one each spouse appears to he hoping the other will get up out of bed so they don’t have to. I’m single so I can only infer.

I think the point in the first strip is simply that each spouse hopes the other will do it. I don’t so much see it as being about women generally or even this woman. It’s just that the joke requires the spouses’ thoughts to be shown sequentially.

Sleeping in, on a weekend and being vaguely aware that the cat wants to be fed, I can really relate to that train of thought (and I’m sure this goes the other way too).

UsualJohn has the first one. I don’t think the second one is similar to the first. It is quite the opposite, in fact. In the first both partners are waiting for the other to respond and would seem quite content to sleep in and let them deal with it. In the second there is a partner willing to get things moving and the other is now feeling guilty about it.
It doesn’t matter for the joke, but for the second one I can’t tell if the wife/gf is purposely trying to lay on a guilt trip or is just being generous.

TedD, I feel confident that she’s deliberately making him feel guilty, and my reasoning is that it’s Real Life Adventures where everyone has their cynicism dialed up to 11 at all times. A genuine gesture is not possible in that world.

The second one seems like my wife, who doesn’t get the concept of sleeping in. She gets up too early and then falls asleep in front of the TV in the evening.
