Why is this not a CIDU? Because it clears up when you realize that named artist is real, and learn even the first thing about them. Here’s Wikipedia: ” Lucio Fontana was an Argentine-Italian painter, sculptor and theorist. He’s known as the founder of Spatialism and exponent of abstract painting as the first known artist to slash his canvases – which symbolizes an utter rejection of all prerequisites of art.”

Diamond Lil departs from their pun-a-day usual practice, and gives us a nicely planned meta.

A well-executed entry in the own-petard category.

I’d call all of these pretty good to quite good!

Maybe my favorite would be the Bizarro. Though I have not personally experienced that fierce of a weighted blanket, it makes a good point.

    In reply to Patrick.
@Patrick, Yes, that was a sort of April Fool’s joke on Wayno’s part. It also marks the year when … something-or-other of comics significance took place. (Somebody please link or quote either blog where they explain this?)

@ Patrick (2) – As Mitch predicted @4, Wayno’s blog explains the oddball figure on that panel (calling attention to its date):

My April Fools’ Day gag includes a bogus symbol count. In fact, there are only four Secret Symbols in this panel. The number wasn’t random, though. This cartoon is the 1,967th I’ve written and drawn since I started doing the Bizarro dailies.

Art like that Franco brings out the curmudgeon in me. I don’t exactly expect art to be ‘pretty pictures’ but I can’t help looking at that and thinking that there are many young houlig…I mean, young men who could do it better.
