@Deety, yes and I think “ape” was especially telling because of their resemblance in body-plan to humans (and eventually, the taxonomic/evolutionary connections).
I recalled a cartoon featuring an ape, Darwin, and pedigree. Somewhat surprisingly, I found it rather readily.
