This was posted on another list, and while the comic itself isn’t a CIDU, I find Lucy’s comment opaque:

Why is she saying “This time will be so differ[ent]”? It’s always the same for her, at least usually!
The mashup is apparently from the 2011 book The Romita Legacy, about the career of comic book artist John Romita Sr.: https://www.hoopladigital.com/comic/the-romita-legacy-tom-spurgeon/13304781
She’s in the process of promising Charlie Brown that this time will be so different, honest.

I agree with Dvandom — she has not changed, she is still planning to fool Charlie Brown, even to the extent of [starting to] issue a false reassurance.

It’s the structure that doesn’t work. With Schulz’s work, we usually got ‘Charlie Brown running toward the ball’, followed by ‘Lucy pulling it away’. There was never an extra ‘in between’ panel of Lucy making a comment in the ‘real’ Peanuts.

Lucy may have engaged Spiderman to pull the ball. THAT would be different in her view. But Spiderman had his own agenda.

Or perhaps Romita had Charlie Brown make his own deal with Spiderman.
