Darren sends this in: “Just don’t get it. Are those giant alligators and it’s a Godzilla sort of reference (but the bricks look normal). Or are they regular alligators and the balloons have some sort of tiny people in them? I feel like it’s supposed to be a “reverse”, but I’m not aware of toy balloons with alligators being common.”
That is clearly a live person in the balloon the little reptile (crocodilian? Godzilla?) is buying. I think it’s just a play on the familiar trope of a man selling balloons to children. Only, when the buyers are Godzilla types, naturally there are people in the balloons. As for the bricks, I think that is just an artifact of the cartoonist’s style and not a guide to size.

Whamond turns up quite a bit in CIDUs. Perhaps the ‘reality check’ is that this feature just isn’t funny.

Yes. those back plates are supposed to indicate this is Godzilla. They just happen to be in a kaiju city.

The “fins” along the spine/tail are very Godzilla, so I think that’s clear. But I have no clue about the people in the baskets, unless it’s just the whole thing about Godzilla terrorizing people.

Ahh, thank you. I didn’t really parse the spines/back plates on it and just read it as a “gator”. At least as a Godzilla, the people make more sense.

If it’s supposed to be Godzilla then artwork more in line with the standard model would have been much better. It’s not like it’s difficult to find reference images.

I had no issues recognizing them as the species Godzilla. I just wasn’t sure what hot air balloons and what looks like distressed creatures in the baskets would have to do with him. Maybe a mix of the human equivalent of balloons for kids and cotton candy???

I think it’s as simple as hot air balloons (with people in them) are the same size to Godzillas as regular balloons are to us. I was actually amused by this one.
The brick size is just a mistake, I have to think.
