I love the phrase “house camping”. It’s a good description of trying to work around a serious remodeling project.

In that column on the left, there is a Suggest-a-CIDU form. If you see something that particularly puzzles you, let us help by sending it in.
I don’t get the cooking one — is there some British TV show involving cooking right now that all the cool kids are watching that I should be aware of?
PS: first post! One of the problems relying primarily on my scraper to read cidu is that if no one posts, I don’t see the thread! (So how did I get here?)
Even I, worst baker in the world and never watches TV, know about The Great British Bake-Off.
I found out about The Great British Bake-off when I read my name in the news. It’s not a very common name at all, so I take note when I see it. It appears I haven’t yet won the grand prize, but it looks like I posted some good recipes. I’ll have to try making them.
But what does that have to do with witches? What’s the joke?
I’m thinking there’s a new program that’s fiction, featuring witches, that has baking elements in it so that this poor soul has confused it with the cooking show — but I know of no such shows, so it’s only surmise.
I definitely have the impression that she usually watches The Great British Bake-Off or something but is now watching a witch demonstrate how to pour poison out of a bottle.
The best shot I’ve got at the joke is that she’s being “creative” with the recipe even now. The witch is working with a boiling cauldron, not a bowl of salad. It’s probably going to taste terrible!
She’s watching a cooking show in which a witch is helping her make a poisonous potion, likely directed at her long-insufferable spouse.
I don’t think it’s a reference to an actual cooking show. There’s “Iron Chef” but no “Cyanide Chef” … at least not yet.
“relying primarily on my scraper” — Scraper?
Well the witch’s cauldron recipe is a common trope, and Wicked is a popular property these days.

Maybe she’s tired of him complaing about her attempts at cooking new exciting dishes and gone straight to the sudden-death ultimate challenge
I had the idea also that she was looking for a bit of husband removal.
