This gets extra tags — some kinda Meta for not using the standard joke set up in panel 1, and some kinda Geezer warning for those youngsters who don’t see something familiar behind “Killjoy was here”.

Maybe. My local newspaper (Chicago Tribune) has become an indistinct shadow of its former self, and the comics are shrunken and in black and white.
Despite the “(Not a CIDU)” category applied to this post as a whole, this item may take a bit of concentration and research before you can join in saying “Oh, I’ve got it completely decoded now!”.

There will be no arguing over whether this is truly a “meta” comic!

We think this is a rerun; but if so, then it falls into “an oldie but goodie”.

Here’s the funny-sad one promised in the category tags.

BTW, do they have a walkie-talkie set, or is that a quite old-school cell phone?
I don’t know why it took me a minute, but: that’s his pal from the pig pen!
You may know the capital of Saskatchewan, but do you know how to pronounce it? The city was named in honour of Queen Victoria (Regina et Imperatrix).
Hint: the “i” is long.
A couple of years ago, the city of Regina introduced a new slogan:
“Regina–the city that rhymes with fun!”
It was quickly killed.
True story: when I was eight, we moved to Ontario from New York. One day we were driving down Regina Street and my dad, the linguist, asked me, “Do you know what ‘Regina’ means?”
I answered, bewildered: “I thought it was part of a lady?!”
P.S. Hoping someone else decodes that one strip. I hate those.
I think the comics page within the Dustin is supposed to show identifiable strips. The third one is Mother Goose and Grimm. Are the others clear enough to name?
I don’t think there are real clues to a genuine message. More likely Teresa is stringing us along 🤓
Yeah, I’ve got nothing on that rebus puzzle. It makes zero sense to me. I hope someone posts a translation, if there is one.
The others are amusing, though I don’t know why Spud turned down Wallace’s invitation. I guess he’s busy thinking deep thoughts? And I’d vote walkie-talkie.
Wallace and Spud have walkie-talkies.
I learned the pronounciation of Regina from the Late Show with David Letterman. The whole extended thing with Dick Assman (pronounced Ossman) from Regina Saskatchewan.
Re: “Scared half to death twice”
A half-truth is a lie.
So, then, two lies should make a truth.
I wondered why Saskatoon isn’t the capital of Saskatchewan until I looked at a map & realized that Regina is much closer to the Canadian ballet in Moose Jaw.
I kind of interpreted it as “Ceci n’est pas une rebus”. (Og, I hate autocorrect.). Agghhh!! I even had to re-correct two things in my parenthetical rant.
Speaking of half-truths and lies, here is a Pardon my Planet sent in by Boise Ed. Note also that it shows just kids, a bit unusual for PMP.
As to Kiljoy was here strip –
Thought that came to mind after box was Woody Allen –
“It reminds me of that old joke- you know, a guy walks into a psychiatrist’s office and says, hey doc, my brother’s crazy! He thinks he’s a chicken. Then the doc says, why don’t you turn him in? Then the guy says, I would but I need the eggs. I guess that’s how I feel about relationships. They’re totally crazy, irrational, and absurd, but we keep going through it because we need the eggs.”
― Woody Allen, Annie Hall: Screenplay
Though as I was trying to find the exact quote the error in it occurred to me. It should be his sister not his brother for “natural” reasons.
I feel like the woman in reply all. Since Robert quit his job about 15+ years ago (due to burn out and at my suggestion) I am behind on all of my work (and would rather read comics online than do that work) and since Covid came along it is even worse. Nothing gets done in the right order and he loves to be out of the house every day so I get all confused about what I need to do and where to find the time to do it. (Right now it is 2am he will be back down here to the kitchen within the hour for pre-bed snack and then upstairs to bed. Even that I am in the kitchen on my laptop is to get a bit of time alone – now I know why my mom used to make those comments about wanting some time alone.) I have to keep careful notes in my Palm Centro – synced with my Lotus Organizer to keep track of it all.
(Yeah, they are ancient, but I have not liked anything since so use the Centro as a PDA in the house and he sets up “virtual machines” with Win XP so I can keep using the two and syncing them.)
@Meryl, yep, the switcheroo in that strip is the refusal to go thru with the “we need the eggs” joke at all.
