A sad-LOL.

This might be a Semi-CIDU, as there is the question of whether this is how the cowboy bathes (and gets the horse to manage the timing and coins), or it’s at the horse’s volition as it wants its gear and rider to be clean.

The “when I look” and “someone will sneak” look like ordinary indicatives, with something like habitual aspect. But surely this doesn’t happen a lot! If we take into account the strip title, that makes this binocular-knocking one of those fears — we just have to understand a “One of my fears is that when ..” at the start and it all comes together.

And here’s our Macabre-LOL for the week:

I agree with Kilby, and the multiple-ciduers editors, that the Bliss “first date” cartoon is sad-funny. But I’m not even sure which two are being called really creepy. The cowboy in the laundry machine is uncertain for me — though I wouldn’t go that far in labelling any of them, actually.

@ Danny Boy (5) – Narmitaj nailed it @6, I thought the cowboy was more surreal than disturbing.

P.S. Awfully nice of space.com to provide a close-up zoom of the question mark, the first article I saw just gave the original image, and made it into a “where’s Waldo?” assignment for the reader. I did find it eventually, but I did not enjoy the process.

What I took from the Eric Scott cartoon was the idea of a cowboy as a clothing accessory for the horse. Not exactly funny but an interesting perspective.

And yeah, it seems “Deep Dark Fears” is not just a title but sort of a caption explaining what the strip is about. I’ve seen similar but struggle to call any to mind in the moment.
