Mitch4 sends in this OY (maybe a momentary CIDU).

So, as a cure, will that leg have to be Hermetically sealed?

Marrose sends this in:

That famous scene:

This is Dan Thompson’s Brevity, so it’s almost certainly a pun, and probably one that is easily explained, so I’m not posting it as a CIDU. But I don’t get it, so pan-der to your editor and explain it to me.

In video game culture, there’s a long-running thread of elitism and a tradition of trolling. The current trend online when someone complains that something in a game is too difficult is to reply with a terse, “Skill issue.”

The pun of course is that an “issue” is also a specific edition of a magazine. A “skillet issue” would be one that features frying pans.

Stan, artists and other freelancers are often asked to work for “exposure” instead of money. The idea is that the work will generate public awareness and therefore demand for future work. Sometimes this works (see, e.g., the early days of Google Doodles) but usually anyone who can offer meaningful exposure is willing to pay.

Exposure can also mean you were hurt or killed by spending extended time outside in poor weather.

Andrew’s description is dead on; I’d add that on a private journalists’ list I’m on, a friend often comments when someone writes about being asked to do something “for exposure”: “Exposure kills!”

The “skill issue” reminds me of the standard golf pro answer to, “Why can’t I lower my score?” “It’s a LOFT issue — Lack of F***ing Talent.”

Ah, so “sounds like a skill(et) issue” is another version of “sounds like a you problem”. Thanks, Andrew

    Thank you, Andrew Millar (1).

As Mike Peterson said today, “I’m a reader, not a watcher, and transcripts get read but videos don’t get watched, …” So, what’s the deal with The Shining?

And I see that WordPress has changed its interface for comments.

@Andrew ‘artists and other freelancers are often asked to work for “exposure” instead of money.’ Ahhh, that makes sense. That process is unfamiliar to me. Without that key piece of information, dying of exposure inside an artist’s studio didn’t quite add up. Not friends with enough artists, I guess. Gotta’ get out more.

    Cheers.
