Egging Them On

Yes, we don’t really do synchronicities any more, but these two were right next to each other in my GoComics feed.

It’s also interesting because the Wizard of Id comic seems outdated: eggs are one of the few items that have come down in price since early 2025, since the flocks that were decimated by bird flu have recovered. A Google image search doesn’t return any earlier version, so I don’t think it’s a rerun.

Bill always imposed a very high standard for “synchronicity”; it had to be more than just both comics mentioning the same object or concept: they had to have similar (or at least parallel) gags. As such, these two strips would not have qualified.

The egg gag is outdated, but I think the spike in egg prices was such a memorable economic event that the gag still works.

Does the hard-boiled part have anything to do with the gag? It seems like that would hurt a lot more than an uncooked egg so why did they use hard-boiled?

Based on comments, many people didn’t get the memo about egg prices coming down. I will say that they have trended upwards lately. From a recent low of around $1.50/doz they are now at $1.80 at the supermarket.

Less messy? Egg bits but not egg goo all over everything. But if you’re going to be childish enough to have an egg fight, it seems odd to be adult enough to think about the cleanup afterward.

Eggs are back to being a pretty decent food value. The contents of a large egg are about 1.75oz. So a dozes is 21oz, The supermarket lists them at $1.79/dz currently, or about $1.36/lib.
