Remembering Don Martin

When I saw this comic from Dan Collins, I was immediately reminded of Don Martin.

(I’ve blacked out a word in the comic, because Collins is making a political point, and we want to keep CIDU a politics-free zone.)

That’s different than Collins’ normal style, e.g.

It does provide an excuse to remember (fondly) the great Mad Magazine cartoonist Don Martin (1931-2000) whose cartoons were a regular delight in Mad from 1956 to 1988.

    I agree about the resemblance to Don Martin, but the panel is a CIDU. Regardless of the political faction being depicted, what exactly are they doing? Bungee jumping off of a bridge? Is the joke that the bungees are too long? That they’re not anchored to anything? That they’re dressed funny?

    Powers, the joke is that the cords are around the jumpers’ necks, so jumping will hang them.

    A lot of his humor is very political, and there is a fair amount of anti-lawyer humor. I find neither funny, even though I tend to agree with him directionally on the political side.

    I surely agree about the resemblance of style!

    Also with Usual John’s observation that the cords are tied around their necks. Note, however, with the closest one, that the upper end seems to be tied to the loose bumper of the parked car, which could be yanked off, foiling the choking/hanging plan. Though I guess he would then fall all the way, things coming out equal in the end.
