Maybe it is that his feet are buried in the sand and we are not seeing them, but rather we are seeing dirt he has moved out of place before turning around towards us and it only looks like his feet fact the opposite way.

Or maybe cave men had feet on the back of their legs instead of the front.

It looks like an attempt to have Peter’s heels down in the dirt a bit. Given how simplified their feet are, it can be difficult to tell which way they point, but it does seem to me to be consistent with him facing away. Also, their shoulder straps are fairly consistently over the left shoulder.

Y’know, Dvandom, being a bit of a nerd I had the same thought this morning. Being a huge nerd I looked at archived strips before saying anything, and there is not in fact any consistency on which side their straps sit.

After studying the drawing (both Peter and Thor’s feet are consistently drawn) and doing extensive research (I read through the comments of both GoComics and Arcamax), either Thor’s feet are indeed backward or Thor is looking to his rear over his right shoulder (possibly at the birds flying off in the distance.) This, of course, assumes there is no consistency in shoulder strap placement.

Thor is definitely turning to look over his right shoulder. But I can understand where the confusion arose.
