Definitely a Cast Away reference. While stranded on a desert isle, Hanks’s character found a Wilson-brand volleyball and began speaking to it, calling it Wilson. He used his bloody hands to dye a little face onto it and later decorated it with palm fronds as “hair.” Throughout the movie he goes through delusional periods where he thinks Wilson is a real person. When he’s rescued, Wilson is left adrift.
This one was a LOL for me. I’ve actually seen the movie, so maybe that’s why: I don’t really know if it’s funny. I remember thinking, when Hanks’s character was rescued, that he’d left Wilson behind, and wondering whether he’d be sorry.
Coincidentally, Tom Hanks’ wife is Rita Wilson. The joke when they were early CoVID patients, Hanks was delirious with fever calling out to his wife “WILLLLLLLLSONNNNNN!!!!!”
“Wilson” was the name of the soccer ball in that Tom Hanks movie. “Cast Away” I think it was called.

Now we know what became of it.

Yep, I knew it was referencing Cast Away but still don’t get why it’s at all funny/clever.
And apologies to Dirk for leaving “the” out of his name!
