You get to vote here: is the cat giving money to Big Ornament to pay for replacements, or is Big Ornament paying the cat for breaking ornaments, so they need replacement?

This is fine! But tickles the memory cells – haven’t we recently seen a cartoon with just about the same joke?

The cat is definitely taking money.

Defo Big Ornament paying the cat. Like the kid in The Kid breaking windows so Chaplin’s glass repairman has a steady workflow.

I agree with everyone else about the cat taking the bribe. The missing antecedent to the “kibble” comic may be the “bamboo“ that appear in late October:

Thanks, Kilby, that bamboo cartoon was indeed the similar predecessor I had in mind.

The cat is on the take.

I’m not convinced that the cat is taking a bribe. Cats are famous for destroying ornaments (don’t I know). He has a look like “Oh I’m in trouble”. To me, he placed an order for more ornaments to rectify the situation.

Obviously Big Ornament is paying the cat for breaking ornaments.

The cat is being bribed. Big Ornament isn’t a company, it’s a cartel.

That’s a “quick, hand it over before she sees us” look on the cat’s face if I’ve ever seen one.

In one of the Thin Man movies Nick Charles (William Powell) discusses the clues with a friend in a cheap diner. Asta the dog is also seated in the booth. A surly waitress appears with a plate.
WAITRESS: Who gets the raw hamburger?
NICK: Me.

There was an earlier one very similar and I can’t find it now. Same set up except the dog is a partner. Dog is sitting in a rug cleaning van outside a house and the guy says something like “you know what to do.” It was either Off the Mark or Rubes or a similarly drawn and humor style.
