A fairly long one from Usual John. I’m not familiar with the Nib, so I’m not sure if this makes sense in the context of some longer storyline.

There doesn’t appear to be any relationship to any prior (or subsequent) work by E.S. Glenn, so I think it’s supposed to be a self-contained mystery.
P.S. Probably the most relevant clue is that this strip was included in The Nib’s booklet collection about “Secrets”.
I’d guess that the guy’s secret was something ephemeral or trivial, and he got so caught up in the tiger’s story that he forgot his own.

Maybe the secret is that you don’t put beers in the shade to keep them cool, you put them in the sun, covered with a wet towel.
