1. I joined the USAF to keep out of the Army. I thought I remembered that they started the lottery while I was in basic training, in early 1968, but Wikipedia says the first Vietnam draft lottery drawing was on December 1, 1969. The chart there says my number was 228, which is indeed what I remember. I guess senility is creeping in on me.

  2. I’m not sure how this strip was rediscovered, but seeing such a good, appropriately dated item (from 1992) shows that there is some Doonesbury material that would be worth re-running. Unfortunately, whoever has been culling the rejects at GoComics seems to have misunderstood the concept, and has been publishing the trash rather than the gems.
