I think the joke makes sense if you read just panels 1, 4, & 6. He’s tired of everything… except girs.
I think it all makes perfect sense if you just delete the reference to COVID, which seems a bit out of place when they’re talking (probably shouting) into one another’s faces without masks.
Well, it’s not a topic of conversation to *Baldo* who is sick of it.
The joke itself is straightforward. Baldo is sick of everything and wants to curl up and refuse to discuss or speculate on anything. His friend suggests girls and that’s a subject despite his conversation fatigue he’s willing to talk about.
But whether Baldo alone is sick of the virus or whether the the virus is no longer (universally) a topic of discussion, Baldo and his friend seem to think its not worth bothering to mask up and social distance.

Basically, in panel 4 Baldo’s friend challenges Baldo’s claim that there’s nothing left to talk about. And instead of arguing with his friend over it, the topic of “girls” is such an effective topic-changer that Baldo even forgets to counter his friend’s statement with an argument.
“Man delights not me. No, nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so. Well, wait, women, maybe a little….”

I’m guessing that their close proximity in panels 3 and 4 is just a result of the artist trying to fit both of them in. I’ve done plenty of bike rides but never with the other rider an arm length away. I wouldn’t mask up either. I have a hard enough time breathing just walking through a store let alone doing cardio.

We live on a 4 lane main road – none of those we have seen riding bicycles or walking – and there are a lot of them – whether children or adults or combination groups have masks on over the 5 or so months that they were supposed to do so. It is only since the summer that when we go out for our monthly (less often early in the stay at home period – went from mid March to mid May without)food shopping trip food shopping excursion that most or more people have been wearing masks and I am guessing that they are only doing so as we go to the Walmart Neighborhood Market and they started checking for masks as Walmart corporate started requiring the masks.
Remember – the period when masks were rare in the supermarket and straight through from the start masks were lacking on riders/walkers was when NYS had the highest number of cases in the country and our county had the third highest number of cases in the state (highest outside of NYC counties).
