  1. I agree; there are gazebo-type structures that can be built so that you can have privacy AND enjoy your hot tub all year ’round. Fence heights are restricted in many areas to six feet; bushes, OTOH, haven’t those same restrictions. I think ours are getting to nine feet (no, we haven’t a hot tub, but we do have a pool which we prefer to use privately). Another risk is a two-story house overlooking your yard; no bushes can ever get THAT high.

  2. Sigh… all you non-Californians and your lots that are larger than postage stamps….. Of course, if the situation (as my last house) is that it is simply physically impossible to have a hot tub and privacy then…. it’s simply not possible and you wouldn’t. But then I have to wonder what’s the joke exactly. You *know* why other people can and you can’t. They have a house with a larger lot.

  3. This one explains the “sitting out late in the heat and coming in dog tired” A&J from a few days ago. I was thinking this was the reason because I have a hot tub and sometimes it does wake up and refresh you late at night like that making it hard to sleep. I even looked on GoComics a number of days back to see if there was a hot tub involved in an earlier A&J panel….

  4. When the observer is on the second, or even the third floor, the question of “a fence tall enough” starts to look silly.

  5. I also think women are more ‘squeamish’ about being seen either in swimming suits or au naturel than are men, HE wouldn’t care about the neighbor seeing them, but SHE would, and nixed the entire idea.

I think he looks/acts like a little kid denied an ice cream cone right before dinner.

  6. I think Andréa’s got it.

It’s interesting that if this is Janis’s projection, she doesn’t seem to be wearing a top.

  7. “It’s interesting that if this is Janis’s projection, she doesn’t seem to be wearing a top.”

It makes a stronger statement about why she’s against getting a hot tub. And at least some people do feel that bathing suits are not proper in hot tubs.

  8. “HE wouldn’t care about the neighbor seeing them”

Well, that’s because the neighbor would be wanting to see HIM.

  9. “t makes a stronger statement about why she’s against getting a hot tub.”

And a stronger statement about why he’s FOR getting a hot tub: One more opportunity (at least in the summer) for seein’ Janis nekkid.

  10. Whilst house hunting in 2017, I found what I thought to be the perfect house in the perfect surroundings. Within a few weeks of having looked at it with the realtor, construction began on the golf course behind the house on two- and three-story townhouses, overlooking this yard and pool. That killed any idea of THAT house immediately.
