If it were Iron Man it would have been a problem, then?

CIDU for me. Lots of kids in SpiderMan costumes? Spiders have lots of babies (which I happen to know ’cause they seem to be breeding in our lanai and I put the egg cases outside)? ??

Yeah, the joke is just that lots of kids are dressed up as Spider-man. Iron Man would have worked too, but I don’t think it’s as common.

Why did he ask, then?

Because if the costume was “Vice President Walter Mondale,” it would have been a problem.

kids in SpiderMan costumes pretty much look alike to all but SpiderMan enthusiasts
other costumes vary more, and you can see something of the kid inside
so if you wanna keep going to the same houses, get a SpderMan costume (and keep changing bags)

Oh, okay, I see I had it wrong. I thought he knew which kid was (uniquely) Spider-Man, and had some reason for allowing that kid the multiple visits.

Maybe if he had said “Elsa from Frozen?” we would have gotten it. I hear that every little girl is Elsa from Frozen this year.

We had just one Iron Man, and no Elsa from Frozen’s. Iron Man arrived with Batman, so maybe world peace IS possible.

Maybe it is a reference to the “Into the Spiderverse” movie where there are lots of Spidermen/women and it is perfectly ok.
