Celibacy and chastity are often confused. Celibacy means not getting married, although it is often extended to not having sex. Chastity means not having sex, or not having sex outside of marriage.
Regardless of definitional issues, this doesn’t seem to make sense. IIRC, Maude and Jake are long term partners in B.C.’s world. And who’s getting redeemed?
Mark H. sends this in. “An explanation of sorts for the timeline juggling that has been part of 9CL for the last few months. Lately, we seem to have skipped about 12 or 14 years, to where Polly and Lolly are now late teenagers.”
Boise Ed sent this one in. If Hagar and Eddie joined the onstage table, they must have thought they were at a dinner theater. But if it were a dinner theater, the audience wouldn’t be in rows of theater seats. It looks like they went to a stage play, got there late, saw the scene involving a meal, then sat there. Even those two aren’t that dumb.

Tim Harrod sends this one in. “So… now he’s sitting on a giraffe. And kings rarely do that, and that’s the joke? The whole joke? No dialogue to nudge us in the right direction?”
The previous day doesn’t seem helpful here.
Giraffes aren’t ridable due to both structure (sloped back) and attitude. They are kissable, though.
Joshua Kreitzer sends this one in, noting that the punchline suggests that Curtis thought Barry made a comment about smoking, but “Comment allez-vous? Como estás?” doesn’t sound like “smoking”.

Dirk the Daring sent in this Foxtrot. May 5th is World Cartoonist Day, but even cartoonists seem to have ignored it, judging by my feed. I guess it’s hard to compete with tacos and margaritas.
Here’s another CIHS: Comic I Haven’t Seen. The idea here is to sample comics that are unfamiliar to the CIDU readership, for better or worse (Hey, that’s not a bad idea for a strip name.)
The idea of Suburban Fairy Tales is to take familiar characters and riff off them in a somewhat modern environment. In this case, we have the wolf and the 3rd little pig from The Three Little Pigs, a story some of us might be familiar with. Francis Bonnet, the cartoonist, has made a career in art and design, working as a graphic designer and cartoonist for over 20 years. Available at Comics Kingdom
Urban dictionary was no help on the 3 book words, except for this bit of localized British slang:
Merriam-Webster’s entry for booky just says it’s a synonym for bookish.
The “Book ‘Em Danno” meme doesn’t seem helpful in deciphering Lawton’s wordplay, either.
