I think the gag is supposed to be that the kid has just suggested an NSFW solution, but King Features would be very unlikely to condone such activity in print. A more practical (and editorially acceptable) idea would be to break the bank at the carnival, but even the winnings from a thousand rounds of “ring toss” is not going to cover that garage bill.

Today’s strip is not much help. He asks a midway barker if the game is rigged and the rest of the strip veers off into absurdity.

How did his car get to the shop in the first place? If he drove, he can drive it to another shop, and if he had it towed it’s impossible that he isn’t aware of the cash-only policy. And also he could have it towed to another shop. And why doesn’t the carnival have an ATM he can use for a cash advance? Where are they at such that these are the only options?

The answer is of course that daddy and the kid died in that car and are now in Purgatory. He must now obtain redemption without credit, while the baby whispers immoral ideas in his ear, tempting him to stray, the demons taunt him for not understanding his plight, and the games are all pigged.

Odds are there’s an ATM within walking distance of the garage…he’d go out of business with a cash-only policy otherwise (unless it’s a money laundering front for a criminal group, of course), and most credit cards will do cash advances.
