Mark H. sends this in: “OK, I get that Lolly is sneaking a peek at Polly with her ancient boyfriend / lover, and that Polly catches her at it. But is the last frame Lolly raising her hand for a turn? What happened to her engagement to Alistair?
Or is she vicariously joining in on the action?
This whole May (March?) / December thing seems to be one of McEldowney’s fixations. Kind of like Woody Allen…”

I think we’ve crossed over to see the action from red-striped girl’s backside of the sofa for only that third panel – in the last panel we’re back on the seat-side with the couple, and green-shirt girl is angrily pushing the snoopy one away. But it is confusing with them having the same hair and no actual clue as to who is who.
narmitaj – yes, that is so. Polly is on the couch with grey guy; Lolly (engaged to Alastair) is behind it.
Today’s comic makes that clear, and also shows the vicarious enjoyment idea was true.
In the final panel, which is from yesterday, Polly hits Lolly or pushes her down, and we see Lolly’s arms go up as she falls. Today’s strip shows that this gave Lolly a bloody nose.
It would help a lot if the two sides of the couch were different colors or patterns.
When the twins face the audience, Lolly has her hair parted on the reader’s left (NOT her left). So I remember “Lolly Left.” I see no other differences.
And no I don’t use “Polly Right” as a mnenome. (Hmmm… this blog flagged “mnenome” as a misspelling. It’s just fine with “mnemonic.”)
Raising hands to ask questions, as it seems that the question-and-answer part needs to continue after all?
OK – I accept that there was a more innocent explanation than either of mine. Usually the two raised hands in 9CL indicate the throes of ecstasy.
Was there some kind of massive time jump in this strip? What happened with the cat?
@Voodoo Chicken; yes there was. I stopped following this one before the time jump, but I understand that Polly and Lolly went from being small to teens quite suddenly. I assume because McEldowney really seems to enjoy drawing the female form.
