The plot action is perfectly clear, in particular what the younger ruler is planning. What I simply do not understand is why the messenger appears to be supporting this plan, instead of informing the older ruler (who is supposed to be his boss) what the ostrich trap is intended to accomplish.

Well, now the messenger wants to know what’ll happen too. (The fact he doesn’t know implies that he doesn’t have to share latrine resources with the troops.)
No, I can’t say the plan or trick is real clear to me.
Seems like a delay tactic. It has the added bonus of being a misdirection to the older ruler. It will take at least a day or two to get a live ostrich to the negotiating tent and once there will be a handful. The older ruler will be pondering what trap the younger ruler is trying to set with the ostrich, which will distract from the real negotiations. Not unlike telling someone you have a huge prank you are going to pull on them in the next week and they get more and more paranoid, only to find out the prank was just to make them paranoid.
@ Dana (3) – The young ruler (in the third and fourth panels) wants to delay the battle until the siege forces have a sanitary emergency on their hands (or rather, in their pants).
Thanks, Kilby, but what I was missing was the role of the ostrich. Is it going to be attaching them to the purpose of “scaring the s___ out of them” perhaps literally? Or leaving droppings all around, meant to affect their continence?
Now I also see Ted’s comment. Thanks, maybe delay is the answer to this aspect.
I think we may well have seen an Oglaf page before.
I seem to recall one sequence we discussed that was abbreviated. I then went and found the original strip and was unimpressed. I thought the portion we saw worked fine without the NSFW elements.
@ Grawlix (7) – Oglaf strips have appeared in CIDU comments (twice) before, but never in an independent post. The “abbreviated” piece you remembered was taken from “spoom” (that’s “woods” umop-apisdn), but it was over a year ago in the previous “random comments” thread, therefore not easy to find:
