Why “Mission Impossible”? I’ve never thought that flan was that difficult to make:
P.S. I’m sure that it will taste better, but I still think the Monty Python melody would have been a superior choice.

I don’t know how hard it is to make flan, but maybe it’s hard enough that the MI theme suits. Also, flan should not be compared to spam. Flan is delicious and my favorite dessert. Spam is not.
Not because flan is an impossible mission, just because it sounds cool, and has more positive associations than doing it to the tune of the Spam song.
And it is another of those pieces famous for using a 5/4 time signature. We recently looked at a couple others (Tchaikovsky, Desmond / Brubeck) in a thread in connection with the 5/4 (4th of the 5th) date.
Crème caramel, as we call it in English, ( :D :D ) isn’t difficult to make, but it’s easy to go wrong, and split the custard, curdle the eggs etc.
The hardest part (if you’re going to make your own) is getting the caramel to the right stage.
But I can’t help noticing that the chef hasn’t done any caramel, so if I were the diner I’d be sending it back.
That M.I. flash mob @4 was a fun idea, except for the idiot film editor who chopped everything into very short bits, making it impossible to concentrate on anything that was happening.
It make me think of Improve Everywhere. I first heard of them a long while ago, with some sort of oddball news conference. I thought of it again years later, but couldn’t think of the name. However, I did recall that the participants were called “agents”. That allowed me to web search ’em up.
Brian, I enjoy how your typing turned that Improv group into Improve!
I also recall them from a while back. I don’t remember if it was them or a similar group, but I do recall getting disturbed by some of what they got into, when it moved from these simply interesting musical flash performances into more questionable prank type situations that crossed a line.
I’d blame it on autocorrect, but I don’t use it.
Mitch4, in your citation of 5/4 time, don’t forget Gustav Holst’s “Mars” (from The Planets). Playing it makes “Mission Impossible” look trivial. “Mission Impossible,” after all, is really just a repeating series of 3/4 and 2/4.
I was about to get smart and suggest another melody that would have been perfect for the “flan” text, but then I decided to eighty-six the suggestion.
So I can’t even get it to scan correctly with the word “flan”. Even the bass line is more a bum-ba-bum-bum-bum, and not just bum-bum-bum-bum-bum, so the single syllable “flan” just doesn’t fit. To say nothing of the di-do-doo’s of the woodwinds. At no point am I hearing “flan”.
(In Portuguese flan is pudim (pu-dzing) (think “pudding”), so I could make it kinda work with the article, o pudim! O pudim! Pu, Pu, Pudim, pu, pu, Pudim — o pudim! O pudim!)
I am trying to remember back to when I actually cooked well and cooked a big variety of food items – for how flan is made I don’t think I ever made flan. (Due to assortments of medical conditions we each have – our assortment of what we can/should eat has greatly dropped down over the decades with a long list of foods that one or both should avoid either in total or eat only very limited amounts, and add in I am picky eater (though 95yo mom insists I am not) – to the point that “What should I make for dinner?” “I don’t know.” …. is the common discussion here.)
(Peanut butter – never ate/eat it with jelly or honey – is the best thing that none of the limitations applies to, at least for me.)
My son has an unfortunate set of dislikes/intolerances.
He has no dietary issues whatsoever with peanuts, but he can’t stand them.
OTOH he loves almonds, but has an intolerance of them.
@Kilby #6 – I believe that the YT Ts’n’Cs contain a requirement that when a group of people are gathered together to do something and make a video of it, the job of filming shall be given to the most stupid.
@ MikeP (15) – It’s not just YouTube amateurs, professional TV productions do it too. One of the worst examples happens every year with the European Song Contest. Some of the musical numbers shown last weekend were not that bad, but the horrendous editing made them uniformly unwatchable.
