   It’s the name of one of Weird Al’s albums.

   Songs featured on Apple iTunes/iPod commercials generally got a large boost in popularity. A couple I remember are “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay, and “1234” by Feist.

   I can count on one finger the number of songs used in ads that I liked enough to eventually pay perfectly good money for.

   I remember those many years ago when I lived in Japan. The music used in TV commercials (abbreviated CM over there) was a big deal. A lot of bands got hits from their placement in commercials. The commercials would have a small title in the corner naming the song and artist. At the CD store, it was common to see albums and singles with a big sticker touting that it had been used in such-and-such a commercial.

   Way back, Coke had the famous “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” commercial. The song in that was popular enough that a complete, non-Coke version was recorded and enjoyed some popularity.

   Not to mention inspiring a fine NATIONAL LAMPOON parody:

   I’d like to teach the world to sing
   And tell it jokes and stuff
   Then pull its pants down to its knees
   And chase it through the rough
   Then knock it out and tie it up
   And check its purse for change
   Then leave it out at Moose Grin hall
   With cousin Ernie who’s deranged.

    James: I recall those. And I may have downloaded an album by Feist on the strength of that. (Or maybe Florence and the Machine. Are they related?)

    No connection that I’ve heard. Feist is Canadian and Florence and the Machine are from the UK.
