    Bragging about the crime you did to your buddies is ALSO how a lot of people get caught and successfully prosecuted for the crime(s) they did.

    No but they make this less of a joke. We can’t laugh and say “How stupid! Can’t you just imagine someone obsessed with social media doing something like that!”. Instead we have to respond “Yeah? People do that all the time? What’s the joke?”

  4. There have been a number of recent incidents in Germany in which onlookers with cameras have interfered with firefighters and/or ambulance personnel, typically in traffic accident situations. Since these morons are simply unaware of the idiocy of their asocial behavior, corresponding penalties have been increased, and the government has started prosecuting offenders.

  5. I was aware of bystanders taking crime-scene selfies, but defendants? Surely that’s rare enough to joke about?

    When I was covering crime on a daily basis, I probably came across a variation of this about once a month.

    And that was over a decade ago, before Instagram made oversharing even more common.

  7. And let’s not even get started on the people posting videos of themselves assaulting somebody.
