They’ve taken after Tia Carmen (bingo at the church, yard sales), thanks to her helping raise them. One thing Carmen does relatively frequently is buy Sergio shirts (I can’t find a specific strip where it happened, but it is something that’s happened a few times. Sergio is telling them not to take emulating Tia Carmen too far. And Carmen is saying she wishes they’d take one other cue from her.

Kind of a teenage boy’s nightmare, isn’t it? Mom comes back from the garage sales and tosses you a bag and says, “Here, I bought you a shirt, try it on.” Smells like a a no-win situation. Best outcome is that the neighbor’s old bowling shirt is 3 sizes too small.

Baldo is one of the comics I read in Spanish before I read the English translation. (I’m trying to learn Spanish, courtesy of duolingo and some very understanding Mexican neighbors.) One of the best things about it is that when Baldo is based on a pun, they make it work in both English and Spanish.

Which is more than I can say for Pearls Before Swine. Sometimes the Spanish version just gives up on even trying to translate and instead runs an old PBS. :-)

@ Chak – The difference is that the authors of “Baldo” are probably fluent Spanish speakers. There have been strips in which I thought the English version read like a slightly fractured translation from Spanish.

They had one recently where a guy in the auto store did an elaborate pun.

I tried running the Spanish one through Google translate, but I think it’s missing something.
