And we’re back. Ish.

Welcome to CIDU’s new home.

We’ve had a lot of addresses in the 22 years we’ve been running, though we’ve been at comicsidontunderstand.com for the past ten. And we will be again.

The one bright part of this month-long ordeal has been the number of people who’ve written to me informing me that the site’s down, or offering to help, or concerned about my health or some other personal disaster.

(The irony was, of course, that I had two months of posts in the queue, so as long as GoDaddy didn’t accidentally destroy the site, I could have been hit by a bus and nobody would have known until early March)

Speaking of that queue containing all the posts through early March… gone. Sure glad I decided to work ahead! And the archives? Also gone. It’s tabula rasa time (which of course made this the perfect time to leave cut GoDaddy loose).

Special thanks, and I can’t say this enough, to larK, who stepped in and, with a wave of his wand and the words fiat CIDUicus, created a temporary shadow version of the site (gone now) with virtually every function of the original.

Please note that since this is a new site, everybody’s first comment will be held for moderation.

    Back-ish is a good start. And now we know roughly what you look like. Up to now, I only knew what IBB looked like. Fingers crossed for the rest of the transition going smoothly.

    Wow. So the old URL now goes to something called the Winnetka Club. GoDaddy obviously assigned your IP address to this other URL as well as yours. And it must have happened a while ago, since I seem to recall seeing this Winnetka Club in the whois info that Mitch posted. Massive incompetence on GD’s part.

    They gave the IP address to somebody else? Is that actually something that happens? I think I’d better get to work on getting comicsidontunderstand.com hooked up with this new site (which presumably can be done seamlessly).

    That’s a beautiful water-and-fire phoenix. Depending on the
    source, the phoenix lives for hundreds or thousands of years.
    Let’s hope this is the last new start of CIDU in our lifetimes.

    Oh, yeah. I almost got caught by the swapped order of name and
    email address on the form.

    Can’t take any credit (or blame?) here — I’ve been on vacation. Bill’s moved the site, and so far decided to forgo attempting resurrecting any archive (which I can understand — sometimes a fresh start should be all fresh).

    Anyway, good to be back.

    Yes, I posted an explanation about IP addresses and Names as involved in shared hosting.

    That Winnetka Club thing is not “already” or new, they were one of the sharers with a “virtual host” at that IP, and apparently the first or default one. If you use 45.40.157.1 in a browser you get them too, as you did before.

    I was only an occasional visitor to comicsidontunderstand.com, but its now become an adventure and my personal mission to track down and find the site wherever it ends up. :)

    Huh, my first comment just disappeared into he aether (I thought it was in moderation, but I now see moderation informs you of itself, so that comment is just gone….)

    Anyway, I just wanted to mention I had nothing to do with this new site, I’ve been on vacation… Thank Bill for all his dedication.

    It was in moderation. By default, everybody’s comments go to moderation until one comment is approved (which is, in my opinion, the most brilliant defense against spam)

    I’ve been in moderation for months, so only having my first comment in mod would be an improvement. And I, too, am glad to see CIDU back . . . I just dumped all my political & editorial cartoons and want something to brighten my days. This is it!

    Looking at this brand new, pristine white site, reminds me of the final Calvin & Hobbes:

    On the bright side, you can repost some old CIDUs: no proof you already posted them before…
    (I was wondering about these geometric gravatars; I now see they’re the default ones).
