Dance Your Way Into Sunday

Thanks to Mitch

For a lively wake-up music, I like the Lezhginka from Khachaturian’s ballet score “Gayaneh”. It is just as energetic as its probably more famous selection, the Saber Dance (which follows it in this clip).

BTW, the lezhginka or lezginka is the name not of just this particular piece but a music and dance style widespread in the Caucsus and Southeastern Europe. If you search the term, you can find many examples of both professional dance groups and informal parties dancing a lezhginka, to various music. Often these seem to be wedding parties, with a competitive tag-in aspect to the dancing among the guests. Here are two examples:

Re: Corrections

Since this has come up several times recently…

If you want me to make some spelling correction in a comment you made (or if you spot a typo of mine that bothers you), the best (and only efficient) way to let me know is by emailing me at cidu email.

For the record, when I scan through recent comments (I see them all in one place) and spot an obvious error, I’ll usually just go in and fix it.

Beginnings

Today’s premiere of Heart of the City 2.0 prompted me to think about other “first strips” and how, for better or worse, they set the tone for everything that would follow.

Peter Zale hooked me with the very first Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet

something positive

Basically, Milholland was telling us on Day One that if you’re capable of being offended, you should leave now.

(And don’t worry: the “baby” is now in his late teens, a regular in the strip, and Davan’s surrogate son)

Perhaps somebody who has a Comics Kingdom membership can supply the very first Hagar the Horrible, which I also remember as setting the stage for the next half century.

Does anybody remember any other significant Day Ones?
