Velvet

Jack Applin sends this in: “In the final panel, Maria implies an incongruence between Ms. Velvet’s name and her rocking the color green. I would understand if her name were “Scarlett” or “Violet”, because those colors are not green. However, what’s the conflict between velvet and green? Is the cloth velvet associated with a particular color? Some cultural thing that I’m missing?”

And, if Ms. Velvet had a daughter born in 2010, would the daughter be Ms. Velveteen?

Purple is by far the most common color of velvet found in everyday life. I would venture to guess Supr Dee thinks velvet is just normally purple, which of course clashes with green.

Curiously, I just read this: “The color velvet is a deep, rich purple-red shade with the Hex Code #750851.”

Who can forget Scarlett O’Hara”s dress and if that wasn’t memorable enough there’s Carol Burnette’s parody of same.

On another note why is the black girl on the ground dressed like a Xmas elf.
