“Willing suspension of disbelief” has to work overtime here: talking fish; worm holding a smartphone; that smartphone showing a fisherman, which would seem to discourage the fish from biting. Fish knowing about AI. What difference would AI make? I can’t sort this out into a joke — help me out here.
I think the point is, the fish is saying “Don’t ear me, the fisherman will catch you” but the fish don’t believe him and are going to ear him anyway.

I think the worm is showing his cell phone, with a picture of the fisherman who put him on the hook, warning the fish – who wonder if the photo is a deep fake.
Of course this doesn’t work as a joke, being way too complicated. Why should the worm warn the fish? Why can’t they see the hook if they can see the phone & understand the warning?

I can sort of make out the logic here. The worm is warning the fish not to eat him by showing a picture of the fisherman trying to catch them. The upper fish thinks that the worm has made up a picture of a fake fisherman as a ruse to deter fish from eating the worm.

I think we should think of this more like a political cartoon. He is commenting on the way in which people are now dismissive of genuine threats by assuming anything that disagrees with their understanding of reality must’ve been faked with AI.

It’s not really in the best interests of a worm to be eaten by a fish. So it makes sense to me that a worm would want to communicate “Here’s why you should not try to eat me” to a fish.

“Why should the worm warn the fish?” To keep the fish from eating it.
That said, I think Targuman (5) has it right.
