Yes, this comic is often confusing, but to me this one should be understandable (except the life cycle of caterpillars is often too short; 7 to 14 days is common). Is this some mythical creature?
My first thought was that this was part of a series, but this is the previous one, which has no connection (and could be treated as a CIDU in its own right). Guau translates as wow or woof.
Or, maybe the next one is part of a series. But no, although this one’s more straightforward.
The artist lives in Mexico City, if that explains any of the cultural references.
Comics I Don't Understand 
The second one is easy enough. That’s Supergirl and, presumably, Krypto. He’s bounding over a cliff with a ball, but they’re under a red sun, which means no superpowers. It’s not funny, but I understand everything that’s going on.
Is that supposed to be Frida Kahlo in the first one? I’m just going by the eyebrows. If so, does that help anyone to understand it?

Given the Mexico connection, I think the first one is a Frida Kahlo connection, as DemetriosX has it. The caterpillar is in love with her monobrow.

Also, if it helps, “Guau” is Spanish onomatopoeia for a dog’s bark (“bow wow”).

Kryptonians have no superpowers under red or green suns. They are vulnerable to green, red, and gold kryptonite, and magic. (Jim, the scary geek from Geeksville, once performed a close-up card trick in front of a Superman parody, who collapsed at his feet. “Magic. Dumb weakness.”)

In Silver Age comics lore, green stars gave Earth humans super powers. But, as Brian says above, there were very, very few of them, so it almost never came up.

The peak of our Sun’s spectrum is green (blue-green, although the air filters out some of the blue), so technically we do live under a green Sun. But since we’re from here, it looks white to us except at sunrise, sunset, and during weird atmospheric conditions. (Clark, having been raised here, would be used to it. Kara would probably find our sunlight to be weird and it’d take a while for her to acclimate.)
And yes, that’s Frida Khalo. I got nothing on the 1999, unless it’s meant to be a Prince reference.
