Just your standard post-graduation plans discussion, but for apples. Probably not intended as a reflection on how grads end up getting chewed up and exploited by the labor market.

Yeah, you could do this with any object. Like nails – “I’m going to help hang a painting!” “I’m going to fix a bookshelf!” “I’m going to end up in someone’s tire!”

Why is the letter “i” the only letter not capitalized? You might say the letter “o” isn’t in some places as well, but that is less obvious.

@TedD, I speculate that the “i” is uncapitalized because it’s hard to tell capital “I” from an “l” in the font the letterer used.

(Does anyone else find it amusing that when you log in from this site, WordPress tells you to enter a six-digit code, then actually texts you a seven-digit code?)

Last week Frazz had a strip mentioning comics using caps. I looked through the ones I read and did find that was mostly true. One exception was Ziggy also had small i’s. It had them even for the word I.

Carl Fink – The font used shows a capital I has the “wings” based on “I’ll” and “I’m.” Even more, since all the other letters are capitalized, seeing “l”, even without the wings, wouldn’t cause any confusion because people can read the words just fine without the distinction and with all the letters capitalized it wouldn’t be confused for an “L” since the capital L is quite clear.

If they’re thinking it through, anyway…

I was working with someone on my team named “AL” (all caps on purpose here, not in everyday use) and we had more than one confused email/IM conversation in the team about “Al says…” where someone was confused about whether the writer meant him or ChatGPT.

They’ve completed the core curriculum? They’re Gala apples at a ceremony? They DID fall far from the tree? They’re getting jobs today to keep the doctorate away? They’re choosing paths where they won’t be compared to oranges? … Okay, I got nothing plausible.
