Mitch4: Note that “one-percenter” goes wayyyy back, to an American Motorcyclist Association statement in 1947 that “99% of motorcyclists are law-abiding”. It’s a common term in the motorcycle world, not even necessarily pejorative, in my experience.

The 1% were the outlaw biker gangs that saw themselves as beyond the law and wore a 1% patch to signify that.
