Johnny was a pothead before its time.
I learned that Johnny Appleseed was a land speculator – he would buy land where he thought settlers would be going and then plant his seeds there. When the settlers arrived years later he could sell them an already prepared orchard!
He was often depicted wearing the pot he used for cooking as a hat. So, his pets also ‘wear’ their various food and drink receptacles.
Over his head, is that a window or a painting? Or is it a painting of a window?
Mark, it appears to be hanging, so maybe a portable window?
I would say it is a painting as it is hanging from a nail which a window would not do.
Then again, while it totally does not look like same, the embroider in me has to say “maybe it is an embroidery and not a painting.” :-)
